A location is a site with an address, a building stands on exactly one location, and a space is an area people enter, inside a building or directly on the location. Locations and buildings are under Locations and spaces under Spaces. The Organisation Admin, Access Manager, Credential Manager and Security Monitor see all three levels. The Organisation Admin creates and changes them.
Also called: site, plant, campus, premises, room, area, zone. The screen says location, building and space.
At Nordwerk Industries, Werk Nord is a location. The Labor- und TechnikgebÀude is one of the buildings on it. Inside it are spaces such as the Serverraum, Labor 2.14 and the Leitwarte. A space that belongs to no building, such as a yard or a car park, sits directly on the location.
A location's page shows its Buildings, the Spaces directly on the location and its Maps on tabs of their own. A building's page shows its Space List. How to create, change and delete the three levels is in Set up locations, buildings and spaces.
What | Hangs off | What it is and where it is described |
|---|---|---|
Access points | Space | Doors, cylinders and readers. Each is assigned to a space, and through it a key or card opens the space. See Access points: doors, cylinders and readers. |
Master key systems | Building | The installation of cylinders and keys with its key plan. The screen calls it a locking system. A building lists the master key systems whose access points sit in its spaces. See Read your locking plan. |
Floor plans | Building or location | One floor plan per floor, on which you pin where a space lies. See Upload floor plans and pin spaces. |
Department | Space | Which department uses the space, as free text. The search under Spaces finds it. See Set up locations, buildings and spaces. |
Tags | Location, building and space | Free pairs of name and value for your own attributes. See Set up locations, buildings and spaces. |
Space groups | Spaces | A named set of spaces through which you grant access to all of them at once. See Group spaces into space groups. |
Protection need | Location, building and space | How much protection a place needs. What a location or building sets is read by the places inside it. See Set how much protection a space needs. |
Responsible and Deputies | Location and building | Who answers for the place. A space answers to the nearest Responsible above it. See Name who is responsible for a place. |
Approver and Reviewer | Space | Who decides on keys to a space at Very high, and who answers its rows in an access review. Both appear in the header of a space's page. See What a space's page shows. |
Area managers | Location, building and space | Which user manages which part of the estate. See Set who manages which part of the estate. |
You grant access to spaces or space groups. The flow is in Give a person access. Finding a space is described in Find and filter spaces.
Every space belongs to a location. A building is optional for it.
Access applies to spaces. Locations and buildings group spaces but grant no access themselves.
Protection need and responsibility work from the top down. What is set on a location or building reaches the spaces inside it. The details are on the two pages for them.
A master key system is tied to no building. A building shows it when access points of the system sit in its spaces. The same master key system can therefore appear under several buildings.
